SATURDAY 20th OCTOBER 2007
EVERTON 1 2 LIVERPOOL
When I volunteered to do the match
report I had no idea what was to unfold
on the day. The following are my
thoughts and you may have your own but
please take it as such.
I was going to talk about the trip up,
and the weekend in general but I have
decided not to. Clint's "Jean theory"
will have to wait for another time.
I met up with Eddie at the "Elm Tree"
before the game and all was looking
good. We had a few beers and got into
the ground ten minutes before kick off.
The atmosphere was electric in the
Street end which was a total reverse to
the Borough game of a few weeks ago.
The game kicked off and as the minutes
ticked by I thought there is no way we
are going to come out of this game empty
handed. Then Sammi what's his name
scored a goal that Pele would have been
salivating over for a long time. The
atmosphere got better.
Second half kicked off and more of the
same, until from an Everton corner
Liverpool go up the other end and get a
penalty. Clattenburgh takes a yellow
card out, Gerrard walks passed him and
says something to him, the yellow goes
back into his pocket and the red comes
out. Everton down to ten men. 1 1.
Personally I don't think it was a
penalty, Gerrard made a meal of minimal
contact. TV coverage backs that up I
think.
Time and again Carragher was blown up
for fouls which resulted in face to face
verbal with the man in black, no action
taken. Last moments of the game
Carragher, arms wrapped around Lescott
and pulls him down in the six yard box.
Lescott fell on top of Carragher. No
penalty.
Kuyte unbelievable two footed "long
jump" of a tackle on Neville. Stays on
the pitch.
Second penalty, great save from Neville
can't really moan about the red on that.
Maybe Everton at 1 1should close a game
down especially against Liverpool.
Today I heard on the radio that
Clattenburgh maybe rested so to speak
because of his performance on Saturday,
as Rob Styles was a while ago. What good
is that to Everton? We should ban him
and his like from ever officiating again
at Goodison.
Players conduct should be looked at as
well, I watched the Rugby World cup
final after the game. The biggest game
in the lives of those players to date.
How did they react to the decision to
not allow the Try? they played on
without a word to the officials.
I think there are certain players and
teams in the Premiership who get away
with murder and I saw the proof of that
on Saturday. When SG was substituted on
Saturday Clattenburgh made a point of
going over and shaking his hand as he
went off. Probably got his shirt after
the game as well.
It's not about being a poor loser it's
about a level playing field. I could not
talk for a good hour after the game, I
walked straight passed Eddie back at the
Elm Tree after the game, thats not like
me.
Looking forward to seeing you all on the
Mini bus to Derby.
Regards
Skinny.
