UEFA Cup group
stage, game 1
 |
Everton 3 - 1
Larissa
A great
start in the UEFA cup group stage
for Everton, thanks to goals from
Cahill, a thunderbolt from Ossie and
another from the powerful Anichebe.
The scourge of Blackburn were
comfortably beaten at Goodison,
although in true Everton style,
there were some nervy moments.

I am writing this as I
think that many ESSCA members wouldn’t have
been made the long trip to Goodison Park for
a midweek game. I work in a school so have
half term, so wanted to support the blues in
Europe.
This was a game of a
few firsts for me personally. This was my
first ever European game, being that I'm
only 22 and was also the first night game
that I have been to. I also took my
girlfriend, and this was here first ever
football game. After the game she stated
that she was now an Everton Fan!
Onto the game itself,
I think that we were good value for the
final score. We do make it hard work for
ourselves though. First half we were playing
some good football and I feel that Osman was
one of the better players on the park. Faddy
was a little isolated up top but that can be
expected playing one up. The goal came at a
good time, settled some nerves and was a
brave header by Cahill. From Gwladys we
couldn’t see who had scored until the
boxing!!! After half time, Faddy missed a
sitter within 5 minutes, before Osman
finished a beautiful move down the Blues
left. Sat right behind it, it was fantastic
to see the keep routed to the spot as the
ball flashed past him. Then the was the
mistake by either Howard or Lescott. From
Gwladys it was hard to see who’s fault it
was but it was a good finish by their
striker. From then on we sat deep and looked
like we might throw the game away. Victor
came on with 15 mins to go, and once again
opposition defenders don’t know what to do
with him. It was a good finish and sealed
the game.
I don’t like to
complain, but the ref didn’t have the best
of games. Was he Clattenburg in disguise? He
was inconsistent for both teams and I’m just
glad that he didn’t wreck the game for us
again.
The atmosphere was
fantastic and the performance was quite good
as well. If we can get another result at
home and pick up a point away from home then
we should progress. I would also like to add
that with the RS losing again in the Champs
league we should hopefully see them in the
knockout round soon!!!
